It all started when I was asked to make some replacement kubbs for friends, followed by a King sprayed gold for a charity tournament’s winners trophy. The first complete kubb set was made for my father’s ninety birthday party. Forty sets later, given away as presents for family and to support charity, I continue to make kubb sets and kubb trophies when time permits.
There is truth in the saying that one thing leads to another, and before long I was crafting the oak off-cuts into key fobs, coat rails, small planters and picture frames. I became mildly obsessed making antipasto / cheese boards and novelty bottle openers for Christmas gifts, and since the coronavirus pandemic caused us all to lockdown and gave us time to reflect, I have been busy making raised vegetable planters, somewhat appropriately called Smug Trugs, as we try to become more self sufficient.
I do not accept payment in return for a kubb set, craft items or a Smug Trug, but ask instead for an appropriately generous donation, to the Alexander Devine Children’s hospice through my JustGiving page.
