Smug Trug
Smug Trugs are raised planters that grew out of the Coronavirus lockdown. Panic buying had left empty shelves in the supermarket, so the obvious answer was to start growing our own food. When the first young shoots began to appear, we all felt so smug – Smug Trug was born!
Requests from family and friends resulted in Smug Trugs of various sizes, in return for a donation to a local childrens’ hospice charity.
These rustic raised planters can rekindle the joy of gardening, without all that knee-creaking bending down for the older ones among us. And they provide a fun activity for kids during the lockdown, perhaps a few minutes of peace for parents, with a dash of horticultural education to tick that home-schooling box. Perhaps even sowing the seeds of a lifelong love of plants, nature and gardening… although not necessarily of slugs.
